Responding to memory and color Roberto Juarez paints through time and engages the viewer to take a journey through his five-decade career as an artist.

PREVIEW:

"Roberto Juarez: Crossing Five Decades (Works Created Between 1983 and 2023)" opening reception on Feb. 28, 2024.

“This selection of artworks represents the feeling of crossing through different eras of my work,” says Roberto Juarez. “For me, it’s important that my love of painting comes through. I want the joy in my work to always be essential. This new exhibition also points ahead, showing how change and growth are still where I’m at today.”

Mr. Juarez has been a fixture in the art scene since the early 1980’s garnering friendships with influential artists in the downtown New York art world such as Ellen Stewart, Gabriel Berry and the late curator Diego Cortez, who assembled the 1981 New York/New Wave group show in which Mr. Juarez's paintings were included along a wall with works by Jean-Michel Basquiat.

He uses profound color and non-Western motifs in his paintings. Mr. Juarez has been the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship in Painting, the Rome Prize Fellowship from the American Academy of Rome among other accolades.

Working in his studio in Canaan, New York Mr. Juarez has a bird’s eye-view of the snowy mountains of Upstate New York and the winter light that is of importance when creating his works of art.

Mr. Juarez continues, “My intention is to invite viewers to connect with the rich cultural tapestry of human history and the boundless possibilities of creativity.

His show runs from February 28 – April 15 at the C. Parker Gallery 409 Greenwich Avenue, Greenwich, CT.
